How do I set up Countdowns by KDS?

Overview

You can set up countdowns by KDS in the backoffice following the steps below.

By setting up countdowns by KDS, users will only be able to place orders for a limited number of items in each given 15 minute window to specified Kitchen Display Systems. 

Set up KDS devices to support countdowns

1. Under the Brands & Locations section of backoffice, navigate to your desired location.
2. Click Edit Location, then go to the Devices tab.
3. Click Add KDS button or the Edit button for devices that are already set up.
4. To apply Countdowns to a KDS, turn the Countdown toggle to ON.
5. Save your changes.

Setting up Countdowns by KDS

Configure Location Preferences

1. Go to Brands & Locations section of backoffice. 
2. Click on Edit Location.
3. Go to PREFERENCES tab.
4. Under Order Throttling, Select by Label KDS.

5. Enter the default Countdown Quantity
   • The Default Quantity set in preferences will automatically populate all countdown intervals, which is visible in Operations. 
   • Operators can customize this number based on the 15 minute timeframe. The Default Countdown quantity will determine how many menu items with 'Add to Order Time' toggled ON can be ordered during each 15 minute window.
   • The 'Add to Order Time' flag can be found when you go to edit any menu item in the Menus section of backoffice.

Edit Countdown Quantity for Time Periods 

1. Go to the Operations section of backoffice.
2.  Navigate to your desired location using the dropdown menus.
3. Select the Countdowns tab.
   • The countdowns chart will be based on the location's hours of operations. If the location is closed on certain days, they will be marked N/A. 
   • To adjust the available days of the week or start and end time, update the hours of operations in the Brands & Locations page. For more information about editing location hours, visit How do I set up hours of operations?
