How do I add a category upsell?

Overview

Category upsells are categories that are recommended to users based on the items they have added to their cart. Only categories from menus with the same order type may be assigned 9ie. takeout menu upsells apply only to takeout orders). Upsell categories are displayed on the checkout page (under 'You May Also Like').

Users can also make 'Upsale Only' categories, which will not appear on the regular menu, but will only appear as an upsale in checkout. This is particularly useful for adding cutlery, extra sauce, donations, and more to your menu setup.

Example of order flow: User adds a hamburger from the category Sandwiches to the cart and the suggested upsells are Sides and Beverages.

Backoffice Setup

• In the Menus section, filter by your brand and location.

• Navigate to the Menus & Categories heading.

• Select the desired menu to expand categories on the right hand side. Select the pencil icon to edit the category you wish to add recommendations to.

• User the 3 dropdown menus to assign Upsells.

  • Upsale Food

  • Upsale Drink

  • Upsale Side

• The labels do not have to coincide with selected categories.

• Each category can have a maximum of 3 upsell recommendations

• Select Save.

Note: For enterprise menus, category upsells are set up at the primary location and shared across menus.

Upsale Only

Upsale Only categories are set up as normal menu categories and items in backoffice, but that are set to only appear on the ordering site as an upsale at checkout. 

Note: this cannot be configured at the child locations for enterprise menus. Category modifications like this must be made at the parent location and shared across child locations.

Setup for Upsale only categories is the same as regular categories, but 'Upsale Only' must be selected, and the items in the category will not appear on the checkout screen if none of the categories in the highlighted dropdown menus are populated.
