Overview
User messages are messages that can be sent to users either manually from the order monitor or automatically during some order flows (like smart lockers). User messages are set up by location in the Communications tab and sent from each order in the order monitor. This article includes system settings, instructions for setting up user messages, a breakdown of supported message types, and supported variables that can be used in message templates.
To send messages via SMS or Whatsapp, you will need a Twilio, Zingle, or Sinch account and we will need to configure the integration.
Order Monitor Messages and System Settings
Order Monitor messages are messages that are sent to users from the order monitor. They can be sent as emails or SMS, depending on the device type of the order and configuration. All orders should have the option for email messages. If the order was placed from a client app where the system setting SMSProvider is present, it should have the SMS option.
The following setting controls the default setting for sending messages from the order monitor.

Creating User Messages
- Go to the Communications tab.
- Select your brand/location.
- Click ADD NEW.
- Select the appropriate message type. See the section below for more information on the different user messages that Tacit supports.
- Enter the message in English and French (If applicable).
- Click SAVE.
Message Types
The below table includes all message types supported by Tacit.

Variables
Tacit supports a list of variables that can be used to enhance your user messages. Variables are included in messages by typing the desired variable in double brackets {{like this}}. For example, writing your template as:
Hi {{FirstName}}, your order {{Event.CustomerOrderNumber}} is delivered. Use {{Event.PickupCode}} to open the locker.
Would automatically produce a result like the following when the message is sent:
Hi John, your order #1234 is delivered. Use code 5678 to open the locker.
Below is a list of all variables that can be added to user message templates. All variables beginning with Event. are unique to Apex Smart locker integrations and should not be used for other message templates.
