Store-paid Courier Tips
Drivers are more likely to accept catering deliveries when a tip is included. However, some customers don't leave a tip because a delivery fee is already charged, and catering orders are typically large. The absence of a tip may result in couriers declining the delivery, which can ultimately lead to orders not being fulfilled for customers.
To help ensure drivers still receive a tip, we’ve introduced a store-paid courier tip. This tip is automatically applied based on the customer’s tipping behavior, but it is not visible to customers.
Key Features
The store-paid courier tip:
- Will not be visible to customers in any capacity
- Is paid by the store/brand
- Is displayed on each order in the order monitor so that stores are aware of the payment
- Reporting will be available on the POS based on the StorePaidCourierItemId. *Applicable only if we send the store-paid tips to the POS
- If SendStorePaidCourierTipToPOS = true, an open-price item and an open-price discount is sent to the POS for store-paid tips
To calculate the store-paid courier tip, we use the following formula:
Store paid Courier Tip = (Order Subtotal × Catering Tip Percentage) – CustomerCourierTipAmount
- For example, on a $1,000 order subtotal, the tip would be $20 ($1000 x 2%)
- If the customer tips $5 on this order, the store-paid courier tip is $15
Settings

| CourierTipMinAmount | $amount, defines the lowest possible automatic courier tip that can be added to delivery or catering orders |
| CourierTipMaxAmount | $amount, defines the maximum possible automatic courier tip that can be added to delivery orders |
| CourierTipPercentage | %, defines the default tip percentage that is added to delivery or catering orders |
| SendStorePaidCourierTipToPOS | If true, the store paid tip is sent to the POS as an open-price discount and an open-price item. |
| StorePaidCourierTipDiscountId | The POS ID of the open price discount (100% off item discount) sent to the POS for the StorePaidCourierItemId when a check has store-paid tips. Applicable if SendStorePaidCourierTipToPOS = true. |
| StorePaidCourierItemId | The POS ID of the open-price item sent to the POS when a check has store-paid tips. Applicable if SendStorePaidCourierTipToPOS = true. |
Availability and Constraints
- This is only supported for POS platforms that support open-price items and open-price discounts
- If the POS platform supports only one discount per order, the store-paid tip discount takes precedence to customer discounts
- Current POS compatibility: Squirrel POS, Toast POS, Pixel Point POS
- Current courier compatibility: Uber Direct and DoorDash Drive
