How do we prevent gift card fraud?

Summary

Gift cards continue to be a common target for fraud, and we are taking proactive steps to help mitigate the risk for our clients. We've introduced new settings that limit certain gift card operations to help prevent fraud related to gift card reloads and transfers.

Affected Gift Card Operations

• Activation – When a user activates a new gift card
• Reload – When a user adds funds to a gift card using a credit card
• Transfer – When a user moves funds from one gift card to another

New Settings

Maximum Gift Card Balance

• Sets the maximum dollar amount a single gift card can hold at one time.

Gift Card Reload Limit

• Defines the maximum amount a user can load onto a gift card from a credit card per 24 hours.
• For example, you might restrict reloads to $100 per 24 hours.

Gift Card Transfer Limit

• Defines the maximum amount a user can transfer from one gift card to another per 24 hours.
• For example, you might restrict transfers to $100 per 24 hours.
